Wilbers Shocks on BMW R1200C
This is a partially complete page for the installation of Wilbers shocks
on a BMW R1200C.
I'll put more text on the page later, but I wanted to get the photos prepared
first.
The Run-N-Lites company is the
official distributor in the USA for Wilbers suspension components.
I brought my bike to their shop near Englishtown NJ, where Klaus did the
installation. The installation was pretty straightforward, and all the new
parts fit properly. A few notes:
- The machining, fit and finish on the new components appears to be first
rate
- The standard color for the springs is blue, but red is also available from
Wilbers, and other colors can be arranged. The blue in the
photos varies a bit from picture to picture (the shocks photograph a bit
turquoise). However it's actually very rich blue, close to the
blue in the BMW badge on the side of the gas tank. So it is a good
combination on my black cruiser.
- Klaus did a very conscientious job with the installation, paying attention
to every detail. Before ordering, he asked my weight, and how much
luggage and passengers weighed. He took "sag" measurements both before
and after the installation.
- The hydraulic compression damper for the rear shock sits upon a model
specific bracket machined to attach at one of the rear fender mounting points.
- There are A LOT of adjustments available, so it will take a while for me
to tune in the suspension for one and two up riding.
- Front shock has preload, and rebound damping adjustments
- Rear shock has hydraulic preload, rebound damping, and both high and low
speed compression damping adjustments.
More text will follow later... enjoy the photos. Model numbers and some
notes from Klaus are posted below the photos Click on the small photos

Other Notes
The R 1200 CL model bike has not been investigated by the WILBERS Factory yet in
regards to which shock model can be used.
Each shock is built individually to the riders specification. They can be built
to permanently lower the riding height in approx. steps of 1/2", 1" and 1 1/2" ,
at no additional cost.
With the order and selection of shock model and option, it is necessary to
supply the "riding weight", as well as weight of possible passenger and luggage
and perhaps tongue weight of trailer if so equipped, and riding style as to
"touring", "aggressive sport riding" or "scraping pegs and dragging knees".
